Kids Menu Font Review: A Playful Typeface for Creative Brands

There’s something about starting a new branding project that feels like opening a blank canvas. Recently, I found myself staring at a fresh brand board, trying to find the right voice for a boutique children’s bookshop. The challenge? Finding a font that felt both whimsical and trustworthy. That’s when I stumbled upon Kids Menu, a handwritten font from Script Amp that immediately caught my eye.

A Whimsical Handwritten Typeface with Personality

Kids Menu is exactly what it sounds like — a playful, handwritten font that brings a sense of authenticity and charm to any design. It has a childlike energy that’s hard to ignore, with gentle curves, uneven strokes, and an overall feel that screams creativity. This isn’t just a font; it’s a storytelling tool. Each letter feels like it was drawn by hand, making it perfect for brands that want to convey warmth, fun, and approachability.

I tested it on a logo concept for the children’s bookshop, and it instantly gave the brand a friendly, inviting vibe. The irregularity of the script added character without feeling unprofessional. It was as if the letters were whispering stories to the viewer, which aligned perfectly with the brand’s mission of sparking imagination in young readers.

How Kids Menu Performs in Real Branding Projects

When it comes to real-world applications, Kids Menu shines in short phrases and display text. I used it on a packaging mockup for a line of illustrated storybooks and watched how it transformed the design. The font brought a sense of nostalgia and playfulness to the product labels, making them stand out on store shelves. It also worked well on a business card design, where its delicate strokes gave the impression of a handwritten note — personal and genuine.

On a website header, the font added a touch of whimsy without overwhelming the content. However, I noticed that it wasn’t ideal for long body text. Its handwritten nature made reading large blocks of text uncomfortable, especially at smaller sizes. This makes it more of a display font or headline font, best used sparingly to highlight key messages.

In social media graphics, Kids Menu performed exceptionally well. It added a fun, engaging element to Instagram posts and Facebook ads. When paired with a clean sans serif font for supporting text, it created a balanced look that was both modern and charming.

Font Pairing and Practical Considerations

One of the things I appreciated about Kids Menu was how well it paired with other fonts. For the children’s bookshop project, I paired it with a modern sans serif typeface for body text. The contrast between the playful script and the clean, professional sans serif helped maintain visual hierarchy and readability.

It also worked beautifully with a serif font in editorial designs, adding a nostalgic flair to headlines while keeping the rest of the layout legible. If you're looking to use Kids Menu in a commercial setting, make sure to check the licensing terms. As with any premium font, it's important to ensure you have the right permissions for print, web, or digital use in client work.

Another practical tip: always test Kids Menu in different sizes and colors before finalizing any project. While it looks amazing in larger formats, it might not be suitable for small text or formal corporate use. Keep this in mind when considering where to apply it in your design system.

Who Should Use Kids Menu?

Kids Menu is ideal for creative brands that want to express joy, individuality, and a touch of eccentricity. Think handmade shops, artisanal food brands, children’s products, and creative studios. It can elevate packaging design, social media content, and even website headers if used thoughtfully.

However, it may not be the best fit for projects requiring strict professionalism or high readability. Avoid using it in long-form text or for formal documents where clarity is paramount. Instead, save it for accents, logos, taglines, or anything that needs a dash of personality.

If you’re looking for a font that can turn your brand into a true standout, Kids Menu is worth testing. With its unique style and emotional appeal, it could be the perfect addition to your typography toolkit — especially if you're working on a project that needs a little bit of magic.
